John and Brina exchanged vows on their family’s property in south Alabama on an October evening surrounded by their closest family and friends. I love intimate at home weddings, they’re so laid back. They strung lanterns made from mason jars and tea lights in all the trees and draped the ceremony space with tulle to create an alter between two trees. Just two weeks before Halloween, they added a lot of neat skeleton and spider web details to create a fun theme. They served Brina’s momma’s famous homemade lasagna and beers and jello shots from coffins filled with dry ice. The details were so FUN and the couple was just the sweetest! I am so honored to have been chosen to document the day they became husband and wife at their Mobile, AL wedding.
John and Brina wrote their own vows and exchanged gifts: a pandora bracelet for her and a new watch for him. John’s wedding band had a wood grain design that was really unique. Their ring box was shaped like a coffin and engraved “till death do us part”, a nod to the Halloween theme but I really love that. John and Brina decided to spend forever together, for better or worse, until death do them part. A marriage is a commitment to forever and I love that.
I spent the morning with the girls while they did hair and makeup. All Brina’s bridesmaids have known each other their whole lives. They were so excited for Brina and had to hold back happy tears when they finally got to see her dressed as a beautiful bride. You might remember Brina from her bridal portraits, I was lucky to photograph her all dolled up as a bride before the big day. I got to see John again for the first time since our consult during their first look. He was so calm, so handsome. There were a few tears, mostly from me.
The family arrived and took their seat as the wedding began. One of John’s closest friends became ordained to perform the ceremony. She shared some stories about the couple and we all shared a laugh. There were more tears- the best kind. The couple shared a first dance and the party began. The Marlands danced the night away and even had a fireworks show- how neat is that!?
